IS A HOSPITAL A HOUSE OF HEALING OR A HOUSE OF SICK PEOPLE?

IS A HOSPITAL A HOUSE OF HEALING OR A HOUSE OF SICK PEOPLE? As I left the hospital yesterday after visiting a very close relative who has been in the hospital for most of the last few months, I was reminded of a teaching I heard in the name of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson...

The Rebbe said it is better to call a hospital a Bais Refuah (House of Healing) than a Bais Cholim (House of Sick People)... The way I learned it is that the Rebbe tried to view everything in life with a positive outlook...

When visiting my close relative who is not improving much, it's hard to be positive... Of course, my endless prayers to HaShem (G-d) are heard and yes He can say "NO" to prayers, but it doesn't mean the prayers are wasted in any way... Nonetheless, the Rebbe's words made me think that perhaps my presence yesterday did make it a House of Healing... I did bring the chocolate bar my relative wanted, but more importantly, I brought myself...

for the time I was there - there was more love in the room, an extra ear, and an extra smile... it may not bring about a refuah shelemah (a complete healing), but it definitely transformed the room from a Bais Cholim to a Bais Refuah...

Thank you and many blessings, Moshe
