To Steal or Not to Steal

To Steal or Not to Steal

Stealing is wrong… or is it? 🤔

No one (I hope) would argue that it’s wrong to take something that doesn’t belong to you. You can’t walk into a store and take merchandise. 🛍️ You can’t move the boundary of your property. 🏡 And you definitely can’t steal time from your employer (yes, for real). ⏰

So Moshe, when is it okay to steal?

Steal time for yourself! And get this—steal it from yourself! 😲

The time you’re taking is the time you waste. Where? How? News, phone, sleep, nonsense… just to name a few. Yes, I understand that people need downtime, but let’s go a little deeper. 📚

📢 News – I admit I look at the news too much, especially since October 7, but I’ve decided to stop. Why? If you check your favorite news website, you’ll notice that it doesn’t change that often over 24 hours. And guess what? The top stories are still there. Also, when I don’t look at the news every Shabbos, I don’t miss it.

😴 Sleep – Each person has to know how much they need and try to get not a second more. If you need it, fine, but if not, it’s wasted time.

📱 Phone – Do I even have to say anything? Every time you’re scrolling for no reason or watching one useless short after another, you’re losing precious time that could be used to help your soul, body, and/or mind.

Great, now you have some extra time in your day after working on these things. So, what are you going to do with it?

Here are some ideas: 💸 Charity 🙏 Pray 📖 Learn Torah 🏋️ Exercise 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Connect with friends or family

So… are you ready to steal some time? ⏳😊
